I’m constantly on the lookout for online platforms where freelancers can find real work, and therefore ultimately benefit from too.
One that has been available for a number of years is TaskRabbit.
TaskRabbit is an iOS and Android app that is designed to help people to earn on a freelance basis. The platform isn’t available everywhere, however if you are a resident of the U.S, U.K, France, Germany, Canada or Spain then you could benefit from the site.
In my review today I will be finding out how likely it is that freelancers will get work as a member of TaskRabbit.
To help me do this I will be uncovering what people are saying about the company, and I will be weighing up the pros and cons of the site should you decide to join.
First however let’s get started by finding out how things work.
How TaskRabbit Works
TaskRabbit provides a same-day service platform that makes it easy for businesses and individuals to connect with skilled people who offer the services that they need.
For example, you can use the platform if you’re an expert in moving, events staffing or furniture assembly. It was founded in 2008 by Leah Busque in Boston, Massachusetts
TaskRabbit aims to revolutionize everyday work. The platform partners with sites such as IKEA, Apartment Therapy and Marie Claire.
TaskRabbit provides work at your fingertips and gives you the opportunity to be your own boss. In all, it allows you to offer services in over 50 categories.
You do not have to be a licensed professional to offer your services on the app.
However for some services, you’ll need to have the required professional certification. For example, licensed electricians would need to show that they have their qualifications.
You’ll often need to live in an area to offer your services there. For example, if you’re offering help with furniture assembly, it helps if you’re nearby the person who wants their furniture put together.
During registration, you’ll be asked to give information on your geographical location.
To sign up, download the app from Google Play or the Apple Store and click on Become A Tasker. You’ll need to select the area in which you have some amount of expertise, such as furniture assembly.
You’ll also need to indicate your rate per hour.
The site is not always free. In some cities, you’ll be required to pay a one-time fee of $25 for registration.
The site charges clients a fee of 15%. This service fee is added to your price and it goes directly to TaskRabbit. Your client is charged a service fee of 15% of whatever you charge for the hours that you’ve worked.
You can build a complete profile on the site and aren’t limited to offering just one service.
You can select several areas in which you have expertise and offer those in different geographical regions. You’ll be asked to submit proof of your skills via business verifications.
The app provides you with ways to market your skills. It will also connect you with clients who are in your neighborhood. If you get positive ratings of 99% or more, you’ll be in demand and can earn a lot more.
People in this category are Elite Taskers, who are known for consistently provide a high level of service and professionalism.
How You Could earn with TaskRabbit.
With TaskRabbit, you’ll set your own hourly rates when you register. For example, you could set your rate for helping with moving at $30 per hour.
However, as previously mentioned, you will need to pay 15% of your hourly rate to TaskRabbit. You could of course add 15% to your hourly rate to cover the cost, but you will need to be mindful of keeping at a competitive rate.
The business or individual that hires you can also pay a tip. If they do then you get to keep 100% of it.
The rates that are suggested by TaskRabbit are only suggested rates. You may find that these are too low for what you have to do.
It’s important to accurately set your payment rates. For example, you may underestimate the amount of time that it will take to move items from a room upstairs to a truck or the time that it will take to rake a yard.
If you’re experienced this is less likely to happen. However, if you’re relatively new, talk to a few other Taskers to make certain you’ve covered all the tools and travel time required for a job.
Once you’ve created your profile, you’ll show up in client search results for the type of skills that you offer and the region that you work in. Your availability will also be a factor.
For example, if you would like to be invited to do more jobs, you’ll need to be available during the hours in which people commonly require the type of expertise that you have.
TaskRabbit has a secure payment system that is used to receive whatever you earn. You’ll earn more if you are skilled in several areas and are able to offer your services in several regions.
If you set your rates within the range that the market will accept, you’ll also get Task invitations frequently.
It’s a good idea for Taskers to go through their work history each month and ensure that they were paid for all of their jobs.
Sometimes you may forget to submit an invoice and so, you won’t be paid. At other times, you may submit an invoice but the client may forget to pay you. in either case, you can let the TaskRabbit team know if you haven’t been paid for a job and they will contact the client.
How To Redeem Your Rewards on TaskRabbit
Once you’ve completed a task, you’ll need to invoice your client in order to receive your earnings.
Usually, Taskers invoice for the hours that they’ve worked plus any expenses that were agreed upon before they started the task.
The platform is cashless, and your TaskRabbit account will usually be credited electronically within 24 hours of the invoice being submitted.
Your money will be sent to your bank account automatically after that, so you’ll see it in your bank account within two or three business days.
All Taskers on TaskRabbit are paid by direct deposit. You’ll need a valid checking account and a routing or IBAN number to receive your cash. You’ll also require a valid billing address.
Your bank account and billing address should be added during registration. Even if your reloadable bank card accepts direct deposits, it cannot be used for payment.
Savings accounts and your prepaid debit card also cannot be used.
