Thanks for checking out my Remotasks review
As suggested by its name, this platform offers paid tasks to people remotely, meaning that these tasks can be carried out from wherever you can get an internet connection.
Remotasks does what is called crowdsourcing, which means it enlists the help of lots of people through its platform, and pays them for helping with a project or a particular task.
In my Remotasks review today I will be covering all you need to know about the Remotasks crowdsourcing platform to help you decide whether it’s worth signing up to.
We will be finding out how you get started, how things work, how much you can earn on the site, and what the pros and cons are likely to be should you decide to sign up.
What Is Remotasks?
Remotasks is essentially a micro-job website that promises to pay you money for performing simple tasks online.
Some of the tasks you should expect to do include data entry, audio transcription moderating content, tagging images, categorization and so many more.
Remotasks is still relatively new as it was launched recently in 2017.
How To Get Started At Remotasks
Joining Remotasks is free for all freelancers, and it is open worldwide. What might be good news for some is that Remotasks does not have stringent membership requirements, you do however require fluency in English.
Signing up is simple, just go to the Remotasks website and click on the sign me up button. You can sign up either via your Facebook or Google Account.
You then just need to give your mobile number for verification. When your verification PIN number arrives just enter it on the screen.
Remotasks requires you to go through some training before you get started. This you can do through the Remotasks Training Centre. Completing a course will enable you to start working on a particular project.
This allows you to learn new skills that you may need in the future when doing various tasks that are deemed complex such as LiDAR data.
You may perform these practice tasks as many times as you want until you become competent.
The more training courses that you take the more opportunities will become available.
You will also find that Remotasks has an active online community, so you can get assistance from more experienced Remotask users if you get stuck on any of the tasks.
How Does Remotasks Work?
Remotasks offers different types of tasks. These tasks are classified into various categories ranging from content moderation to image annotation just as mentioned earlier.
You must pass the exam of a particular category before you can start applying for jobs in that section. Tasks within the category you are interested in will be unlocked as soon as you complete and pass the exam.
The exams at Remotasks do not take long, but the duration entirely depends on your understanding of the subject. You are encouraged to take your time, as you are only allowed to take each exam a maximum of three times before you can secure a job.
You can carry out tasks on your mobile which of course makes the work more convenient, however for some of the more complex tasks it is recommended that you use either your laptop or desktop computer.
The most prominent tasks at Remotasks include:
This involves drawing boxes and labeling objects such as pedestrians, bus stops e.t.c. in 3D maps used by selfdriving vehicles
This includes searching the internet and collecting information about various topics
Image transcription is the process of transcribing relevant content from the provided image.
Categorisation involves identifying keywords and phrases to describe an image
OCR transcription is the process of transcribing content.
What is important with all these tasks is that you need to maintain a high accuracy score to remain a member of the platform.
What Is also important to remember is that all tasks have a time limit, which you must also meet if you want to continue working with Remotasks
If your accuracy is too low, or you take too long to finish most tasks, then Remotasks will have no choice than to ban you permanently.

What Is The Income Potential At Remotasks?
The amount of money that you should expect to earn depends on the complexity of the task your doing.
Some tasks such as audio transcription pay an hourly rate ranging from $1 to 2$ per hour. So, if you were to transcribe a 5-minute audio, you must convert 12 5-minute voice recordings in order to earn the hourly pay.
Based on these rates, you could potentially make between $2 and $10 in a day depending on the availability of jobs, although members do report receiving less than this after carrying out tasks on the site.
However, if you complete the training for more complex tasks you will get higher paying tasks.
You need to also take into account the fact that you will be charged a 2% transaction fee for PayPal when you come to cashing out.

How Do You Get Paid At Remotasks?
Remotasks doesn’t have a minimum payout threshold and they pay members weekly on Fridays via PayPal. That means of course that you must have a PayPal account in order to receive payments.
Make sure you set up your PayPal address on the Remotasks accounts section to avoid disappointment.
At the time of my latest update of this review Remotasks has a score of 2.2/5 from 68 reviews at Trustpilot. They also have a score of 3.1/5 from 64 votes at Glassdoor.
Although there are some users that report a good experience with the site, others do complain that the tasks are very low paid and therefore not worth the effort.
Some users complain that the training isn’t very good, and isn’t adequate to enable them to do the job properly.
Others report that they are sure they have completed the job correctly but still get an error message saying the work wasn’t correct.
My readers have provided quite a lot of feedback about Remotasks in the comments section below. I would love to hear from any more readers that want to share their experience of working with Remotasks.
What Is Good About Remotasks?
– Free to join & open worldwide
– Low minimum payout threshold
– An active community that offers help to members
– Plenty of jobs – numerous tutorials and practice tasks
What Isn’t So Good About Remotasks?
– Most jobs are repetitive
– You must maintain a high accuracy level
– You may be banned if your work is repeatedly inaccurate
– Most jobs pay very little
– A 2% transaction fee for PayPal payments when you cash out.
– A number of complaints from users of the site complaining about very low pay
Is Remotasks Worth It?
Remotasks is a micro-jobs website with plenty mostly low paid jobs to offer.
To receive payment from Remotasks you must go through the training and take some exams before you can unlock available tasks. This is not a bad idea of course but it could mean that it takes a while before you start working on paying tasks.
Also, you must maintain a high accuracy level to remain a member of Remotasks. This puts a lot of pressure on workers as you will never have a second chance if you get banned. The pay is also not good for most tasks except for image annotation jobs that are often rare.
Putting all these factors into consideration, we suggest that if you join and spend time working with Remotasks, you need to be realistic about what the earning potential is
