How Much Can You Earn With Remotasks? A Review

Remotasks Review

Thanks for checking out my Remotasks review, folks!

So, let me break it down for you. Remotasks offers paid tasks that you can do from anywhere you have an internet connection.

That’s right, you can work in your PJs from the comfort of your own home, or from a beach in Bali – as long as you have Wi-Fi, you’re good to go!

Remotasks uses what’s called “crowdsourcing,” which basically means it gets a bunch of peeps to help with a project or a task, and then pays them for their hard work.

Today, I’m gonna give you the lowdown on everything you need to know about this crowdsourcing platform, so you can decide if it’s worth signing up for.

We’ll go over how to get started, how it all works, how much moolah you can earn per hour, and the good and bad things about it. So, let’s get this party started!

What Is Remotasks?

Remotasks is basically a website where you can earn some cash by doing simple online tasks. Think stuff like data entry, audio transcription, moderating content, tagging images, and more. You know, all the fun stuff!

And get this, Remotasks is a newbie in the game – it was launched back in 2017. So, it’s still pretty fresh on the scene.

How To Get Started At Remotasks

Joining Remotasks won’t cost you a dime, and it’s open to peeps from all over the world.

The only catch is that you gotta be fluent in English – so if you can’t speak the language, you might be outta luck, my friend.

Signing up is a breeze – just head over to the Remotasks website and hit the “sign me up” button.

From there, you can choose to sign up using your Facebook or Google account. Then, all you gotta do is give your mobile number for verification. Easy peasy.

Before you start raking in the dough, you gotta go through some training. Don’t worry though, Remotasks has got you covered with their Training Centre, which you can access via your Remotasks dashboard.

Completing a course will qualify you to work on a particular project, and it’ll also teach you new skills that you might need in the future.

Remotasks Jobs

So, there are different kinds of jobs or tasks that you can find on Remotasks.

They’re divided into categories, like content moderation or image annotation. But before you can start working on a particular category, you’ll need to pass an exam for that category.

Once you pass the exam, you’ll unlock tasks in that category that you can start working on.

The exams don’t take too long, but how long it takes you really depends on how well you understand the subject.

You only get three chances to take each exam before you can move on and start working.

One cool thing about Remotasks is that you can even do some of the tasks on your phone, which is super convenient.

But for the more complex tasks, it’s probably best to use a laptop or desktop computer.

The tasks at Remotasks include:

LIDAR/Image annotation

This involves drawing boxes and labeling objects such as pedestrians, bus stops e.t.c. in 3D maps used by selfdriving vehicles

Data collection

This includes searching the internet and collecting information about various topics

Image transcription

Image transcription is the process of transcribing relevant content from the provided image.

Categorisation

Categorisation involves identifying keywords and phrases to describe an image

OCR transcription

OCR transcription is the process of transcribing content.

What is important with all these tasks is that you need to maintain a high accuracy score to remain a member of the platform.

What Is also important to remember is that all tasks have a time limit, which you must also meet if you want to continue working with Remotasks

If your accuracy is too low, or you take too long to finish most tasks, then Remotasks will have no choice than to ban you permanently.

How Much Can You Earn At Remotasks?

So, how much cash are we talking about here? Well, it depends on the task you’re doing. Some tasks, like transcribing audio, pay between $1 and $2 per hour.

So, let’s say you transcribe a 5-minute audio clip. To earn the hourly rate, you’d need to transcribe 12 5-minute clips. That means you could potentially make between $2 and $10 in a day, depending on how many tasks are available.

But some members report earning less than that.

The good news is that if you complete the training for more complex tasks, you can get higher-paying gigs.

Just keep in mind that when you cash out, you’ll be charged a 2% transaction fee by PayPal.

Remotasks Payout

Remotasks doesn’t have a minimum payout threshold. They payout members weekly on Fridays via PayPal. That means of course that you must have a PayPal account in order to receive payments.

Make sure you set up your PayPal address on the Remotasks accounts section to avoid disappointment.

Remotasks  Reviews

So, I did some digging and found out that Remotasks has a bit of a mixed bag of reviews.

On Trustpilot, they have a score of 2.2 out of 5 from 68 reviews, and on Glassdoor, they have a score of 3.1 out of 5 from 64 votes.

While some people seem to be happy with their experience, others complain that the pay is just too low for the amount of work you have to put in.

Some folks also feel that the training isn’t that great and doesn’t really prepare you for the tasks.

And get this – some users swear they did the job correctly but still get an error message saying they messed up!

I actually got some feedback from readers in the comments section below, and they had some interesting things to say about working with Remotasks.

If you’ve worked with them before, I’d love to hear your thoughts too!

What Is Good About Remotasks?

– Free to join & open worldwide

– Low minimum payout threshold

– An active community that offers help to members

– Plenty of jobs – numerous tutorials and practice tasks

What Isn’t So Good About Remotasks?

– Most jobs are repetitive

– You must maintain a high accuracy level

– You may be banned if your work is repeatedly inaccurate

– Most jobs pay very little

– A 2% transaction fee for PayPal payments when you cash out.

– A number of complaints from users of the site complaining about very low pay

Is Remotasks Worth It?

Remotasks is a website that offers micro-jobs, but most of the tasks are pretty low paid.

To get paid, you need to go through some training and pass some exams, which is okay, but it might take some time before you can start earning money.

Plus, you have to be super accurate because if you get banned, there’s no second chance. The pay isn’t great for most tasks except for the rare image annotation jobs.

So, if you decide to give it a try, just be realistic about how much money you can actually make. Whether it’s worth your time is up to you to decide.

Star Rating 2.5/5-Remotasks Is A Free To Join small tasks platform that has an active community. The jobs however may be a bit too tedious for some, and they are very low paid.

  1. I was working as an AI trainer completing tasks in field of expertise, Nutrition. After just a few days (as I was SUCCESSFULLY completing my tasks, i.e., they were accepted), I was informed that I was removed from my projects because of “low quality” work, and I was “in violation of Community Guidelines.” I have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. I proceeded to inquire via ‘support’ as to what is ‘low quality’ so that I could make any appropriate improvements in my tasking work. I inquired numerous times … each time I received a canned response stating that I did “low quality” work. I NEVER received any hint of a reason or explanation. Then I received a response stating that – “not to worry” – I would be allocated to a different project category, but IF I received another warning flag, I would be let go entirely. Well, the fact is that I NEVER even received an INITIAL warning in the first place!! Actually, I received TWO separate emails stating that I would be reassigned. However, I soon received a response from a different rep stating that I was removed from ALL tasking, i.e., let go. Once again, NO WARNINGS, NO REASON GIVEN, AND NO EXPLANATION. This is a completely incompetent and unprofessional organization. To accept an individual as an AI trainer after completing a screening process that took around 2 hours to complete … and then hiring that individual … and then giving that individual several tasks which he successfully completed … to just boot that individual out the door without a specific reason or explanation?? I would say that’s pretty bush league. This company is a complete a joke and a fraud. They should be investigated.

  2. My experience with remotask has been positive thus far. I signed up a couple weeks ago. They pay every wednesday. The pay is good. Some of the projects you may be assigned to have incentive bonuses. Task pay is based on the complexity of the task, along with the time you put into it and the quality of your work. It seems realistic to be able earn at least $1000 a month or more.

  3. Hi Ray, I completed training on two tasks successfully and they were disabled from my dashboard before I could start tasking, how is that

    1. I actually started to work with remotetasks and in less than an hour I have 3.12 so far. I feel is not bad. Of course you will not replace your job but is extra cash. Maybe it depends on your location because when I apply it ask me if I was in certain states.

  4. I have done some work with remotasks, working about 8 hours I made like $38. Not great, but when you need some extra cash. They did not charge me any fee to send to Paypal and i was paid on Wednesday mornings just like they said. Been working with them a couple of months. No issues.

  5. I was about to start to work on remostask, but with those comments I´d rather to sleep or watch tv.
    Thanks for this review!!!

    1. Hi David,
Yes there is quite a mixed response to Remotasks here in the comments. It does appear to work for some but not very well for others. Thanks for reading my review.

    2. I’ve made over $100 and just started today! I have $140 in bonuses on the way in addition to this. I am surprised by complaints of low pay, I seem to average $1/Minute.

    1. Hi there,
As far as I am aware haven’t reviewed any other sites apart from Remotasks that provide lidar annotation jobs. Let me know if you find any and I will be happy to consider reviewing them.

  6. Have you reviewed other online work opportunities / companies which you can recommend for me to check out?
    Regards
    Jaun

  8. From my personal experience, I am highly depressed with their payment. The easiest task they have listed are not easy as we think. One task would take 15 t0 20 mins to complete and you are getting maximum $0.008, even when the quality of the task done is “100% accepted”.

I did 9 tasks out of which 3 got paid with the amount $0.00xx, and others got rejected. We cant even see why it got rejected. I really doubt it is their trick to pay less, but in real it might got accepted. I literally feel like a university exam where student has given best in his/her paper and the teacher has decided not to let them pass.

If they really respect the time we spent, they should be paying more. I am not seeing any logic in this!!. Even Online games pay more than this..

    1. Hi there,
I appreciate you sharing your experience of working as a member of Remotasks. I’m sorry to hear about how little you were paid for the tasks you carried out. The information you have given will be of interest to my readers, thanks again.

    1. Hi there,
Yes you can sign up to Remotasks using your Google Account. It’s difficult to say which jobs are the most popular.I recommend however focusing upon the ones you think you are good at in order to maximise your earnings.

  9. The site can take forever to approve your task. I submitted mine and a month and half has elapsed without any approval. I feel more devastated because of the time I took to complete the tasks. Also, they keep adding more features to their website where I see it hard to swim in. Like, lately they introduced a warning of burning your account because of spam. Imagine the time one take to draw 360 frames and after labeling every frame, you get that warning. I can recommend it to you but am sure you will see it more tiresome and time consuming work with low payment.

    1. Hi Simon,
Thanks for sharing your experience of working with Remotasks, I’m sorry to hear that it has taken so long for the site to approve your work. A month and a half is an unreasonable amount of time to have to wait to get paid. My readers will of course be interested in the feedback you have given. I hope you hear back from them soon and wish you well with your future online endeavours.

  10. great review which sums up what remote task are all about, I have joined the platform recently and even though i cant work anywhere in the world at the moment, the flexibility which Remote tasks brings is great, however i have found some of the tasks time consuming such as data collection.

    Thanks, Joe

  11. Hello, im attempting the zebra tasks but im unable to draw the cuboids. This is my first time on the site. Have tried all things possible seemingly, there is something i’m not doing right. Any feebdback?

  12. In my experience, Remotasks do not have a minimum threshold as I received my first Remotasks payout $0.05 (five cents) automatically on my Paypal account on payday, got it from their site university exam.

    Enjoy online earning! 🙂

    1. Hi there,
Thanks for sharing your experience working with Remotasks. We have updated our review regarding the minimum payout. Thanks again.

  13. how to aply as Remotask hourly pay? is it posible? Im so Intrested working on it, some of my friends Quit regular jobs for this Flatform and it amaized me how they earn just by tasking, work remotely and homebase job, looking forward for this thank you.

  14. Hey Ray,

Remotask sounds like good way to make extra income on the side. However it’s seems likes it might take you a while to make substantial money from the tasks as the pay is kind of low. It can also be a bit of stress constantly thinking of them banning you if you don’t maintain high accuracy.

I like the fact that it’s open to all because similar sites don’t cater to certain countries so this is plus for Remotasks. I personally don’t think I will be checking it out anymore because the work sounds boring and repetitive. Thank you for the review, it was very informative.

    1. Hi Zara,
That is the downside to sites like Remotasks in that the pay is low and the work can be boring. It does however serve as a small income stream for those who have the time to invest and those that want to secure a small online income.
You must however do the tasks correctly and do so consistently if you want to maintain your income with the site. Thanks for the comment, I’m glad you found the review informative.

  15. Hello Ray! Thanks for your review on Remotasks. It is a great platform to work on, however some of their jobs is quite challenging especially LIDAR/Image annotation. Another thing is that they don’t just give people data entry work to do, during your test before they will recruit you, you must pass all the test/practice including the annotation. Except  the image annotation that is challenging, other micro tasks on their platform are great. One can really make a nice income. One thing I love most is the low minimum payout threshold.

    1. Hi Gracen,
It’s good to hear from a user of this platform and I appreciate you sharing your experience.
It sounds like you have had a positive experience with Remotasks. I agree that having a low payout threshold is a big plus for any side income site like this one. Thanks for your comment.

  16. Thank you for this amazing review. Honestly, I like the concept of remotasks because I have seen it somewhere before reading the review here because I have been wondering if they are legit or just toying with people. truly what makes me scared about them is simple the banning on member. That is so so bad because  I might have worked so hard to keep some money their, then they just ban me for what? So i can’t sign up for that. THANK YOU for the info

    1. Hi Kehinde,
The site deserves the right to close your account if your work is repeatedly inaccurate so it is important to ensure you are confident doing the task in hand. The site provides you with tests to see how good you are at various tasks, and you need to pass these before you carry out the tasks for real.
If you do pass the test you also have to ensure you maintain your accuracy, which can be difficult for some as the tasks can be repetitive. Thanks for your comment.

  17. Good information on this article. It is good to make income in a legit way and that’s what Remotasks is all about. Add I like the fact that you will go through training before working for them and that you can earn as much as the work available. Right away am going to check them out. Thank you for this helpful information. Good job.

    1. Hi Kinggold,
I’m glad you found my review of Remotasks to be informative, thanks for your comment and good luck with your endeavours.

  18. I have looked over a few reviews and they all say something similar when it comes to the accuracy and banning. How accurate do you hVe to be exactly to avoid being banned? It would just seem like a horrible thing to be working and working and all of a sudden one day just get banned.

    1. Hi Huy,
The terms and conditions at Remotasks state that if your work is repeatedly inaccurate they reserve the right to terminate your account. It is therefore important to make sure you concentrate on the job in hand if you want to keep your account.

  19. Thanks for this bro. Am going to go check this Remotasks out immediately. I don’t mind earning little cash for little work, am already in one that’s very similar. like Remotasks it also involves transcription work. I will compare both and see which one will be more beneficial to me

    1. Hi Nathaniel,
Thanks for checking out my review of Remotasks. I’m glad you found the article informative and good luck with your online earning.

  20. I instantly got so excited because this is something I would be interested in. However, after seeing the amount of money you usually get paid- it was less appealing. I am still going to look into it because every dollar counts.

Are there ways to make more than just the $1-2/hr?

Thank you for writing this article, much appreciated!

    –Ciara

    1. Hi Ciara,
Yes the income potential is quite low as it is with sites similar to this one that you can find online.
There are some higher paying jobs however the higher the pay the more complex the job is likely to be. You can do better on sites like Remotasks by working both quickly and accurately so you need to ensure you are confident with the task you have chosen.

  21. From experience, you can not earn enough from working small task online to pay your bills. Remotask isn’t any different from most of the already existing micro task sites. I won’t waste a minute on such site because the pay is too small compared to the amount of time you invest.

    Warm regards

    1. Hi Louis,
Yes sites like Remotasks are only designed to provide you with a side income. It is important to keep that in mind, and not fix too high an expectation on what you can earn to avoid disappointment.

  22. oh this sounds great, I love coming across websites where i can earn an extra bit of income, i work online everyday anyway so another little extra jobs wont hurt. When we get paid through paypal, soemtimes we have to take the code to the bank to redeem the money, is this how this works? Or is it mroe simple? I love learning new tricks so this is right up my street.

    1. Hi Jayde,
I’m glad you found my review of Remotasks informative.
The site will pay you via your PayPal account so you need to ensure you have an account. When you reach the payout threshold the money can be automatically transferred into your account. Thanks for your comment.

    2. Hi, Jayde Butcher Remotasks has some tasks that pay somehow well. and please I request if you have a website that you can recommend I join, please I will happy to say thank you once I join.

      with regards from Francis Kenya

  23. I came across the Remotasks website just the other day and I have been toying with the idea of signing up and working with them ever since – but first I needed to check if they were legit or not!

I really like the idea of completing these sorts of tasks for money…but I am a little worried about the fact that they can ban you.

    1. Hi Chris,
Thanks for reading and commenting on my review of Remotasks. I’m glad you found the review to be informative.
Remotasks reserves the right to terminate an account if the work you produce is repeatedly inaccurate. It’s important therefore to ensure you stay focused on the tasks you are carrying out.
