How Much Can You Earn Writing Stories With Penpee?

How Much Can You Earn With PenPee

Thanks for checking out my Penpee review.

Penpee is an online platform that is designed to offer opportunities for its members to earn rewards when other people read their stories.

Essentially, the platform allows you to earn tokens or credits each time someone reads a chapter of your story. You may then redeem your tokens for cash or gift cards depending on your preferences.

This opportunity to earn money online therefore will appeal to those of you who have a passion for writing. Penpee offers you an opportunity to earn from your unique creativity.

Whether you are a skilled storyteller or otherwise, everyone has a story to tell. To succeed however, you need to get people to read your creations.

Getting started with Penpee

You do not have to be a professional author to join. Penpee accepts both professional and amateur writers. The only requirement is that you must be at least 16 years old to register as a writer.

The registration process is easy, but it is a bit intrusive. Besides providing your basic details such as your name and email address, you also have to indicate your education level, relationship status, and employment status. You also need a profile photo for approval as a writer.

These requirements seem to be quite invasive considering that your relationship status or the location of your workplace has nothing to do with your writing skills.

However, if you comfortable with providing this info, then you may go ahead and sign up.

Penpee Membership Levels

Penpee has two membership levels for writers. These include the Starter, and Premium accounts.

The importance of the different types of membership is that it will determine how much credits you will earn.

  • Starter Membership

The Starter membership is free, but you can only write up to 3,000 words per story.

Approval time for your story will take 72 hours, and you cannot earn on the leaderboard.

Members require three reader’s tokens to publish their stories on this platform at any given time.

Once you publish your story, you will earn 45% in credit commissions ever chapter of your story read.

  • Premium Membership

Premium membership costs £12.99 every six months, or £19.99 for twelve months. Unlike the first membership plan that have stringent word limits, premium members can post stories of up to 12,000 words, which translate to 10 chapters.

You also get 100 bonus credits, and shorter approval times for your stories.

You will also earn 70% in commissions every time someone new reads each chapter of your story. You will also earn £1.50 if your story takes the top spot in the daily leaderboard.

Another feature is that Penpee offers you the chance to promote your books on Amazon, subsequently increasing your readership and clientele base

How much can you earn with Penpee?

The amount of money you can earn depends on a number of factors, including your membership level and the number of readers you have.

Starter members earn the lowest commissions, while premium members make the highest earnings.

For each chapter read, Penpee will receive four credits. You will then receive a commission based on your membership level. For instance, Premium members will receive 2.8 credits, which is 70% of 4 credits.

Penpee also pays bonuses for most read and engaging stories. With this in mind, it is important that you try to produce exciting and engaging stories to lure more readers and increase your earnings.

Cashing out

For every 50 credits, Penpee pays you £1. You may cash out at anytime once you accumulate at least £5 or 250 credits in your account. All payments are made via PayPal or World Remit.

Penpee Reviews From Real Users

At the time of my latest update of this review (February 2021) Penpee has a 4.3/5 score with Trustpilot from 23 reviews.

Most users are very happy with their experience using the site. Members enjoy a platform that allows them to use their creativity and to earn at the same time.

There are a couple of complaints regarding customer service, although these aren’t the most recent reviews.

What Are The Pros Of Penpee?

– Accepts writers from all over the world

– Free welcome credits after signing up

– Low minimum balance of £5

– Supports PayPal payments

– Reasonable referral program

What Are The Cons Of Penpee?

– Requires a lot of sensitive personal data

– Highly competitive and difficult to attract readers

Some Final Thoughts…Is Penpee worth joining?

Penpee offers writers around the world an opportunity to make money out of their passion for writing.

The platform also offers you the chance to earn bonuses and post teasers to major platforms like Amazon to increase your readership and clientele base.

Besides earning money, you will also be improving your writing skills by posting short stories every month.

Putting all these factors into consideration, Penpee is in our opinion a site worth joining, especially if you have a passion to write and you think you have the talent to succeed.

Star Rating 3.5/5- Penpee offers an opportunity to earn money from your creative writing. To succeed here however you may need a real passion to write rather than to be in it to simply make money. If you have the passion, and love to write stories, Penpee could be a great platform for you.

    1. Hi Suzanne,
Thanks for reading my PenPee review.
The starter membership is free, so no you don’t have to be a paying member. Although, as you can see in the review, the starter membership does have some limitations.

  1. I stumble by penpee as I was browsing thru reading short stories. The platform seems to be a convenient launch pad for budding writers like me who like penning down stories from real life experiences or otherwise.

The only glitch is buying the membership and the categories and conditions to earn a certain amount.

    Good luck anyways!

    1. Hi Nahid,
Thanks for sharing your opinion of the Penpee platform. Please let us and our readers know how you get on if you decide to try it out.

  2. I had never heard of Penpee (a bit of unfortunate naming in my opinion). It looks like an interesting concept.

Looking at the reward structure, I dare say it is quite difficult to make a reasonable amount of money.
However, if you have already good stories waiting to be discovered, Penpee might be a good place to get some exposure. It is an excellent opportunity to gauge the interest your stories can generate.

To earn a living, you probably have to be a top read and a premium member as well.

    Well written and informative article.

  3. Hi Ray
Quite an interesting review on penpee.
The most lucrative thing a writer can have is looking at his name in print. Writing for passion and earn on the way is a good concept . I like the Basic Membership which is costing 2.99 half yearly.
Anyway, in today’s world of internet, getting individual‘s basic information is not a big deal- but as a platform for new writers searching to get acknowledged – it can be compromised up to the certain limit.
Please suggest how Penpee will contribute to the sale of our Stories through Amazon

    Warm Regards,

  4. Thank you for introducing Penpee as not a lot of people interested in the platform know about this. However i would like to know if the starter level has a limited number of days you can use. Do you think English is the only allowed language? ‘Cause there are writers from different parts of the world and it will be more difficult for them to get readers if their stories are not in English. No offense here.

I agree when you said that having your own blog seems a better option but if your goal is to upgrade your skill, then there is no harm in trying!

  5. Yay!! I suddenly got excited about the opportunity to write on Penpee. I’m already seeing it right now as a way to further sharpen my writing skills, since I’m a blogger who relies on my writing to successfully run my business.

Currently, I’m assessing the pros and cons of the platform, since I’m thinking whether it would be a viable investment of my time and money. Anyways, thank you for recommending this opportunity.

  6. I’ve never heard of Penpee until I read your article.  But then again I’m not exactly up to date on things.

However, I’m intrigued by it.  You know we all think there’s a hidden writer in us?  Well this seems to be a great platform for testing out how you will fare as a writer.  If you attract enough people to read a chapter of yours, then you know you’ve got the gift of the pen.

From the sounds of it, I would start off on the starter membership to see how easily I can produce writings.  And if I start to attract interest and I feel the creative juices flowing, it might actually be worth it to make my way up to full premium membership, no?

Thanks for bringing Penpee to my attention, really appreciate it!

  7. This seems interesting as I haven’t encountered Penpee before. It’s a wonderful concept to help creative writers get paid but it seems quite small. I read other reviews, and it didn’t seem to be positive ones. Plus it seems that you have to pay for membership before you can get paid more. Since they have to build their membership, which will then be the source of readers who can go through your stories, why not look at other alternatives. Perhaps you can publish your own book at Amazon books, submit a compilation to a publishing house, turn it into a book, or linked to your top recommendation – build your own website and build your own reader base. The last one seems like a better alternative for me.

  8. As much as penpee fits perfectly well with my line of choosing career to make a living off writing. I do not feel a need to give out my personal details to get accepted. Also, I fancy ghost writing and freelance writing more better than this. The paid membership to earn well is another turn off on my path which I’m not ready to get myself involved in. But thanks for giving out this much info about penpee

  9. Dear Ray,

Thanks a lot for the very thorough and comprehensive review post.

Being a writer I came across few ads and posts on Penpee. Because of the increased number of online scams I wanted to do some research and I came across your informative review which is a huge time saver for me.

The membership level you explained is very helpful and detailed. I got great insights from your review.

The pros and cons you shared is very helpful in making my decision. The low cash-out threshold, paypal payment option, free to join and accepting writers around the globe are the great news.

I loved how easy the review makes it for readers and no additional research needed. You left no stone up-turned in explaining how it all works. Penpee is on my list!

    Much Success!

    Paul
